Reading Quality Reports


Not only do we want to keep you informed about quality at CMC - NorthEast, but we also want to make sure that you feel comfortable reading and understanding our reports on quality. The following information may help you to learn more about how quality is reported and about how to read the charts that track quality.

Look at the sample chart below and use the circled numbers to reference the explanations of specific regions on the chart.

Explanations:

Item number 1 Name of indicator being reported.

item number 2 Dates represent the time periods the patients were seen in the hospital. Data is usually shown in 3-month increments and compared to the previous year.

Item number 3 Percentages represent the rate of compliance for the indicator shown.

Iten number 4 The NEMC Target represents the compliance rate desired as obtained from an outside reporting agency. For indicators shown here, higher percentages are preferable.

A: All of the indicators of quality are updated on a quarterly basis. However, they are not all updated at the same time.

Q: Where does the data come from for these quality reports?
A: For the quality data on Acute Myocardial Infarctions (AMI), the data comes from the National Registry of Myocardial Infarction (NRMI). For the quality data on Congestive Heart Failure and Pneumonia, we receive our information from MIDAS+T, a medical care management tool that helps healthcare organizational gather and translate existing data into meaningful information.
